Northwest Greenland, 2022. AMKA means “one with a friendly spirit” in Inuktun. Traveling on the sea ice with Polar Explorer, Lonnie Dupre, Inuit Hunters, Sofus and Qajorannguaq Alataaq and their dogs. In the five settlements in Northwest Greenland, traditional materials and habits are still intact and sled dogs are still depended upon for travel and hunting on the sea ice.

In October, 2021, Professional climbers Pamela Shanti Pack and Gisely Ferraz completed the first ascent of the route they developed, “Girls on the Fringe,” on the Fringe Wall in Indian Creek, Utah.

The significance of this accomplishment goes much deeper than adding another FA to their names. Girls on the Fringe embodies their partnership and bond as they found a way to connect and heal from trauma through off-width climbing.

The mission of the Dirtbabe Collective is to impact mountain culture through offering therapeutically framed experiences in combination with technical skill development and visual storytelling.

This collection of images is from Dirtbabe Collective’s flagship program, the Alpine Climbing Camp in Bugaboo Provincial Park in July of 2022.

This program is a five day alpine climbing camp centered around providing barrier-free access to climbing in the alpine environment. We desire to dismantle financial, experiential, mental and emotional barriers present for women-identifying, gender non-conforming, and trans folks in alpine climbing. Our focus is on developing skills through teaching and mentorship from ACMG certified guides and expert facilitators with backgrounds in clinical counselling and adventure-based therapy.
